Phyllobates Terribilis - 'Orange'
These are one of the most amazing dart frogs currently available in the hobby. If you plan on keeping dart frogs, Terribilis are species definitely worth looking into! They originate from Colombia in the Chocó rainforest. They are also one of the most poisonous animals on the planet! Lucky for us they aren't able to produce toxins in captivity.
Care
Ventilation: If you are using an enclosure with a screen top it is extremely important you cover 85-90% to prevent the humidity from escaping too quickly.
Call your local glass shop for quotes. It can be surprisingly inexpensive to have glass cut locally with the edges sanded. For us it's around $5 - $12 depending on the size needed.
If done right, cling wrap can be used to cover screens.
Humidity: 60% - 80%. We mist our tanks every 1-3 days depending on how well their enclosure holds humidity.
Temperature: Ideal temps are around 70-76. Temperatures 80 degrees and over can be fatal.
Diet: We feed our juveniles Melanogaster fruit flies. Fed Every 2-3 days. The fruit flies are dusted with Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding. We supplement in Repashy Vitamin A once every 3 to 4 weeks.
Enclosure: a trio will do very well in a 15-20 gallon aquarium or 18x18x18 enclosure. Younger frogs can be kept in grow outs or plastic tubs to have easy access to food. We highly recommend using a false bottom, substrate barrier, ABG mix, leaf litter, live plants, isopods, and sprintails.
